Miniature encyclopedia of whisky: Which whiskey to choose and how to enjoy it?

Did you know that no two brands of whisky taste the same? This is especially true for “single malt” whiskeys made from one type of malt. The quality of the barley malt used, how it is dried and how the mash matures in the barrels all have an impact on the final taste. For example, whisky aged in bourbon or sherry barrels has intriguing flavors.

To get the perfect enjoyment of whisky, roll each sip for a few seconds in your mouth, like you are chewing it. This completely opens up the flavor in it. It is also a good idea to add a little water to the whisky to release the taste and also to protect your taste buds.

Nestville Whisky - true Slovak whisky

Nestville Whisky - true Slovak whisky

Nestville Whisky continues a tradition almost 300 years old. Even in those days, grain spirits were being produced in the shadow of the Ľubovňa castle. The first modern Slovak whisky saw the light of day in 2010.

Did you know...

What the difference between straight and blended whiskey?

What the difference between straight and blended whiskey?

Straight whiskeys called single-malt are known for their original taste, appreciated by experts. It varies according to the specific distillery and the year the whiskey was produced. Blended whiskeys have a softer taste that is popular with regular customers. Their taste is constant thanks to the opportunities from controlled blending

How do you serve whisky? Ideally without ice

Serving an alcoholic beverage correctly makes the taste of each one stand out better. And whisky is no exception. Forget the classic small shots to down it in a single swallow. Whisky should be savored, rolling each sip on the tongue. Ideally use short, wide whisky tumblers with a rough bottom to enjoy it. Even more suitable are tulip glasses, named for the narrow neck shaped like a tulip.

A common error when serving whiskey is to add ice to the glass. The lower temperature dulls the drink’s already delicate taste. So if you desire to make the most of your favorite whisky, it is enough to serve it at room temperature from the (home) bar counter.

Whisky sour

Whisky sour

This cocktail dates back to the 19th century. The sailors liked him very much because it allegedly helped against the disease that often bothered them - scurvy, a lack of vitamin C. Put all the ingredients in an ice shaker. Shake and strain into a cup. You can decorate the drink with a slice of lemon.

Something interesting to entertain family and friends

There is no better way to celebrate International Whisk(e)y Day than to drink it. By the way, International Scotch Day falls each year on the 27th of July. The oldest recorded production of whisky dates back to 1494. 150 years later, this "fiery" water was first taxed by the Scottish Parliament. Today an amazing one billion bottles of Scotch whisky are exported from Scotland each year.
