That is why rum domestically produced in Slovakia called tuzemák is not counted as rum. Its main component is alcohol from fermented potatoes or molasses left over from the processing of sugar beet or cereals. Then the essence of rum is added to it. Nonetheless, such a process does not detract from tuzemák’s popularity.

How to drink rum: Temperature and the right glass are critical

Like any other quality alcoholic drink, rum is best when it has not been chilled. So serve it at room temperature. You can hold the glass in your hands for a few moments before you take that first sip. Lower temperatures dampen the taste and don’t let you enjoy such a wonderful rum to the maximum. Therefore, never put ice with rum. The ideal rum glass has a conical shape that tapers upward. It lets the taste develop in just the right way so the rum retains its aroma longer.

Although rum is drunk in one gulp at many small Slovak pubs, it’s definitely not the right thing to do. Rum’s aroma and flavor need to be savored. First, sniff the rum about 4 centimeters from the edge of the cup. Then take a sip and let it roll on your tongue for a while. This lets you discover all the tones rum hides.
