Miniature encyclopedia of sparking wines: What to select and how to serve it
Sparkling wines, Sekt, aerated sparkling wines or Champagnes? Most people cannot even tell them apart. But at the same time, they often want the same thing - a delicious wine with a cork and small bubbles for those festive occasions, celebrations and to toast an event. So what’s the difference? Sparkling wines are the name used for alcoholic beverages that are produced by primary or secondary fermentation of wines.
This term is regularly confused with “Champagne”. However, the appellation Champagne belongs exclusively to sparkling wines originating in the French wine region of Champagne. All other sparkling wines except for true Champagne are indicated as Sekt, including for example the sparkling wines branded as Hubert and Mucha. Aerated sparkling wine is a lower quality, cheaper wine that is artificially carbonated. It has nothing to do with Sekt.
Mix sparkling wines
Sparkling wines are an excellent combination for light and fresh cocktails. Try the classics or try the winter variation of the popular drink Aperol Spritz.

How do you serve Sekt? Chilled in flutes
Let the wine rest and stand in a cool place. Properly opening the bottle will prevent half the contents from spilling on the floor. After twisting the wire clip holding the cork in place, tilt the bottle at about a 45 degree angle. Rotate the cork in one direction, putting only slight pressure on it until it loosens. Have the glasses ready to pour the sparkling wine immediately after opening the bottle.
